    Group Therapy for Pregnant & Postpartum Birthing Parents & Moms

    Being a parent is hard!

    You feel isolated and alone. You don’t feel like others around you understand what you are going through. You feel like you have to be a perfect mom and parent. You often feel inadequate and judged by yourself and others around you. You feel anxious about not doing enough and worry about your baby’s safety. You don’t feel confident in yourself. You have difficulty with managing your anger, frustration, anxiety and depression.  You struggle with communicating your experiences, thoughts, and feelings with others. You struggle with taking care of yourself and asking for help from others. You don’t want to be perceived as weak or unable to handle parenthood. You struggle getting out of bed due to not getting enough sleep and constantly waking up throughout the night. You feel like this will never end. You feel overwhelmed, stressed, and exhausted.

    You want to live your life without guilt, shame, anxiety, and depression. You want to feel like yourself again. You want to be confident in yourself and enjoy parenthood to the fullest.

    You are not alone! We can support you in our therapeutic skills and relational support group (Perinatal Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Group), you will develop connections with other parents like yourself and learn coping strategies for managing transitions, your mood, and your trauma symptoms.

    Perinatal Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Group: Strong Root Curriculum

    The Perinatal Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Group is a 20-week curriculum that has four learning modules: Mindful Parenting, Restore Balance, Co-regulation, & Tend to the Forest that fosters perinatal mental health, social connectedness, parenting efficacy, and positive parent-child relationships.

    Four Learning Modules:

    Mindful Parenting: You’ll learn about mindfulness and balancing how to attune to both your needs and your child’s needs. You’ll learn how to cope with stress, depression, and anxiety, and improve how you communicate your experiences, thoughts, and feelings to others.

    Restore Balance: You’ll learn how our brains and bodies respond to stress and how our reaction to stress supports and protects us. You’ll learn ways to “cope ahead” for recurring stressors and develop a tool kit for managing high levels of stress. You’ll learn about skills to support your self-regulation and develop co-regulation in your relationship with your child.

    Co-regulation: You’ll learn about the importance of mood regulation, and how your emotions and experiences play a role in your communication with others. You’ll explore your parenting style and utilize parenting moments to hold your child’s needs for exploration and safety. You’ll explore different techniques to challenge intrusive and unhelpful thoughts and negative self-talk.

    Tend to the Forest: You’ll focus on attending to yourself with kindness and self-compassion  while passing these traits to your child. You’ll explore moments of exploration, growth, restoring emotional balance and repair rupture in your relationship with your child. You’ll learn about the importance of social support and develop skills to ask for help.

    Group Therapy Information

    Who the group is for?

    This group is for birthing parents who are pregnant and postpartum up to five years after birth who experiencing anxiety, trauma, or depressed mood. 

    When & Where will it be held?

    Held virtually (Zoom) on Mondays from 12pm-1pm. We will be starting Mindful Parenting module on March 4th.

    Please note: You can join the group at the beginning of each module and will need to complete both an intake and orientation prior to joining.

    Cost for services:

    To participate in group therapy, you must first complete an initial evaluation to determine if you would be a good fit for the group.

    For new clients, your first module will cost: $425 (includes 60 minute intake appointment & 5 group therapy sessions). After your first module, it will be $250 per module for 5 group therapy sessions.

    Payments can be divided by session but you must enroll for the whole module (all 5 weeks).

    Additional Information about this group:

    This group can be used as an adjunct to individual therapy. Even though individual therapy is not required to participate in this group, it may be recommended during the initial intake session.

    This group therapy session will have two weeks orientation, a foster connections individual meeting with therapist followed by the orientation module (if participated in the beginning), and a final foster connection individual meeting at the end of group.

    How to sign up?

    You can sign up by contacting us to schedule your initial intake session.

    What is the cost for this group?

    For group therapy, you must complete an initial intake session before attending any module of this curriculum. The cost of the initial intake session is $175 for a 50 minute session. Each group therapy is 60 minutes long and cost $50 per session.

    Participating in the 20 week group therapy sessions are equivalent to the cost of about 5 individual therapy sessions. You’ll gain skills to improve your mental health, and confidence in yourself and your parenting skills. You’ll receive peer support from other parents like yourself so that you no longer feel alone and isolated in your parenthood journey.

    I would like to participate in the 20 week group therapy sessions, but I can not afford to pay upfront. Can I pay by session?

    Can I use my insurance for group therapy services?

    Can I participate in both individual and group therapy at this practice?

    Yes, you can. During your initial intake session, speak with your therapist about your interest in participating in both individual and group therapy. Get started by contacting us.

    Can I participate in individual therapy with another therapist and participate in group therapy at this practice?

    Yes, you can participate in group therapy in this practice while also participating in individual therapy in another practice.
